The Central Thing

Flyer (50)

Flyers are the work horses of the game. They fly around the game world collecting stuff crystals, then return the stuff to your Central Thing or the closest Resource Point. Flyers are fairly cheap to build, but they are also easy to kill. You should keep an eye on your stuff count and if it stops going up, then build more flyers - as your old ones have probably wandered into enemy territory and come off second best.

Icarus (100)

Icarus was a guy who glued feathers to himself and went for a bit of a sun-dive in Greek mythology. Stroggs don't have feathers, so they used a welder and some jet engines for the same effect. These guys fly around and shoot stuff. Use 'em in packs or as scouts.

Technician (100)

Technician - the brains in buckets - are incredibly useful. They can build all the buildings in QandC. They will also repair damaged buildings when they have nothing else to do. They have limited offensive capability, and are designed really for base maintenance and expansion. You should always have a couple cruising around your base doing important secret things for you.
